You Can Now Connect Your Social Media to Google Search Console

For years, Google Search Console has been one of the most useful free tools available to website owners.

It shows you how people find your website through Google, which search terms generate clicks, which pages receive the most visibility and whether Google is successfully indexing your content.

Now, Google is expanding that picture.

Some businesses can now connect social media profiles to Google Search Console and view how those profiles perform in Google Search alongside their website data.

This matters because your website is no longer the only part of your digital presence appearing in search results.

Your Instagram profile, LinkedIn page, YouTube channel and other public social content may also appear when someone searches for your name, business or area of expertise.

What does connecting social media to Google Search Console mean?

The new feature allows Search Console to treat an eligible social media profile as a platform property.

Once added, you may be able to see information such as:

  • Clicks from Google Search to your social profile

  • Impressions in Google Search

  • The search queries that led people to your social content

  • Your best-performing social profile pages or posts

  • Whether your search visibility is increasing or decreasing

  • The countries where search visitors are located

Importantly, this does not show your normal social media analytics.

It will not tell you how many people viewed an Instagram Reel inside Instagram or how many users saw your TikTok in their feed. It specifically reports how that content performs when it appears in Google Search.

How to connect your social media to Google Search Console

The feature is being rolled out gradually, so the exact process may vary depending on your account and the platform being connected.

To check whether it is available:

  1. Sign in to Google Search Console.

  2. Open the property selector at the top of the screen.

  3. Select Add property.

  4. Look for the option to add a website or platform property.

  5. Enter your social profile URL, such as your Instagram profile address.

  6. Complete the verification process.

Depending on the platform, Google may verify the profile automatically through an existing website property or ask you to log in directly to the social platform.

Google may also identify social profiles already associated with your website and prompt you to add them through the Search Console Insights report. At this stage, availability is limited to websites and channels Google has identified as being connected.

Why should you connect your social media to Google Search Console?

1. You can see how your whole brand performs in search

Previously, Search Console mainly showed how people found your website.

The new reporting gives you a broader view of your digital presence.

Someone may discover your business through your website, an Instagram profile, a LinkedIn page or a social post appearing in Google. Being able to see those touchpoints together helps you understand how people are actually finding you.

2. Social content is increasingly visible on Google

Google Search results are no longer limited to traditional website pages.

Videos, profile pages, social posts and other public content can all appear in search results.

This means a useful Instagram post or LinkedIn article may continue attracting visibility long after it disappears from a follower’s feed.

Connecting eligible profiles to Search Console can help you see which social content is creating that longer-term search value.

3. You can identify new content opportunities

The search query data may reveal questions and phrases people use before clicking on your social profile.

That information can guide future:

  • Social media posts

  • Reels and videos

  • Blog topics

  • Website service pages

  • Frequently asked questions

  • Email marketing content

Instead of guessing what people want to know, you can create content around the searches they are already making.

4. You can better understand branded search

When someone searches your business name, several results may appear.

They might see your website, Google Business Profile, Instagram account, LinkedIn page or YouTube channel.

Search Console’s social channel reporting can help you understand which of those assets people are clicking and how strongly your brand appears across Google Search.

5. It brings website and social reporting closer together

Many businesses treat SEO and social media as completely separate activities.

In reality, they both contribute to how people discover and assess your business online.

This update gives business owners a more connected view of that journey and makes it easier to understand the combined search performance of their website and social channels.

Will connecting your social media improve your Google rankings?

Not automatically.

Adding a social profile to Search Console is primarily a reporting and measurement feature. It does not mean Google will immediately rank your social posts or website higher.

The real value is the information it provides.

You can use the data to understand what people search for, which content attracts attention and where opportunities exist to improve your broader digital presence.

What should you do before connecting your profiles?

Before adding a social profile, make sure the connection between your website and social media is clear.

Check that:

  • Your website is linked from each social media bio

  • Your website links to your official social profiles

  • Your business name and branding are consistent

  • Your social profiles are complete and active

  • Your website is already verified in Search Console

  • Your social content is public and accessible to Google

These connections make it easier for people—and search engines—to understand which profiles officially represent your business.

What if the option is not available yet?

Don’t panic.

Google is rolling this feature out gradually, which means some users will see platform properties before others.

In the meantime, continue strengthening the relationship between your website and social channels by linking them to each other, using consistent business details and publishing genuinely useful content across both.

To summarise..

The way people search is changing.

Potential clients may find you through your website, your Google Business Profile, an Instagram post, a LinkedIn article or a video, all within the same search journey.

The ability to connect social media to Google Search Console gives businesses a clearer view of how those different platforms contribute to search visibility.

It won’t replace your usual social media analytics, and it won’t instantly improve your rankings.

But it can help you make smarter decisions about the content you create, the platforms you prioritise and the way your website and social media work together.
